Memorial Day 2011 Margraten war cemetery:
The second day of the Memorial Day ceremonies my friends Frenk and Odwin, my dad and I visited Margraten war cemetery. All the graves at Margraten war cemetery are adopted by people across the Netherlands. With every one placing flowers at the graves, we decided to visit the cemetery early in the morning. Today we went to place flowers at the graves of all the men who fought and died at Best during operation Market Garden in September 1944.
Foundation Remember September 1944 was in close friendship with Col Robert ‘Bob’ Murphy. One of his best buddies in the war was Sgt Charles Burghduff from Spokane, Washington. Charles got killed in action in Mook, the Netherlands, just a few feet away from his buddy Bob. Frenk decided a while ago, to investigate what happened to Charles during those September days in Mook. Charles earned the Bronze star and Silver star medals. He must have earned the Silver star during the Netherlands campaign, but no one seems to know what he did to earn it. Therefor Frenk is researching his story. The story of Charles Burghduff can soon be found on the webpage of Foundation Remember September 1944.
